After studding this book and practicing while doing the study on photos, you can feel confident and comfortable using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5. This book actually is designed for professional digital photographers, however, advanced hobbyists like I can pick up a lot of useful knowledge in postprocessing faze of your digital photography art. I liked most of the chapters and really appreciated the chapter on Slideshow.
You actually can burn your Collection of photos on DVD as a slide show including background music and add any type of titles and so on or just convert to PDF format and send to your friends via email.
I guess you have to get use to new environment of Lightroom software. Very in-depth, but easy to follow. Scott does a superb job walking you through the process. I have used Light room for years and still learned some tricks. Highly recommend this read. I would buy a Scott Kelby book any time his name is on it. I know I will learn something of value. I prefer this book’s writing style, its features chosen to explore in detail, and the overall results from its recommended system to develop photos. However, if you have Mr. Evening’s earlier books for Lightroom 1, 2, 3, or 4 you really don’t need this book. The changes in Lightroom between versions are mostly minor improvements with a new feature or two thrown it to get you to upgrade.
If you have a good understanding of the product from an earlier book, learning the changes from the next Lightroom release from Adobe marketing or web tutorials is a quicker and cheaper way to go.
I bought versions 1 through 5 because I’m just that way. Having read them all I now know I didn’t need to. Having a copy is essential. Having multiple is an unnecessary extravagance.
This book really helped me to use Lightroom. I had for years tried to get into it but unsuccessfully. This book has an amazing index and great photos to show exactly where to click. I was so happy with this author that I ordered his book on Photoshop CC as well. These books are the ones to used. Nobody should be without them. The writing style is excellent. The level of expected knowledge fits me exactly. I could not be happier. One person found this helpful.
Excellent book especially for anyone wanting to learn the why and how to do things. Not for the casual or quick read. I had been struggling to get up to speed with Lightroom and found this book very good. It helped that I was reasonably familiar with Photoshop but then that also may have been my problem is some respects. This is a book I am going to use for reference.
Martin Evening has a long teaching and writing experience and does so clearly. It is a good idea in the first instance to follow the book page by page with LR5 running in the background containing a variety of image examples that you can practice on as you go. Preferably pick poor exposures or contrast limited pictures to work on but almost anything will do. Highly recommended. This is a very detailed book and explains the program in great detail.
The language within the book is very technical and requires a real understanding of the science of photography. But using the book and the detailed videos within the Lightroom program it is possible to understand and use Lightroom to enhance photos.
For some people it might be too detailed, but if you want to learn everything it is the perfect book.
