The Nikon D series has long been a good choice for photographers who wanted a very capable compact DSLR that offer a higher level of enthusiast features than the D series that sits below it. Nikon’s latest model – the D – continues that trend, though the differences between it and the D that came before it aren’t enormous. The D , introduced in the fall of , impressed us with its image quality, flip-out LCD, and feature set.

We were less enthused about its menu system and live view performance. So what’s changed? In brief, the D has a smaller and lighter body with an improved grip, a faster processor, touch-enabled LCD, ‘flat’ picture control, and built-in Wi-Fi. We’ll see later if the company addressed some of the issues that we encountered with the D To say the D sits in a crowded field is an understatement.

The D appears to use the same The D also features Nikon’s latest Expeed 4 image processing engine. The design of the D has changed for the better. It uses what is known as a monocoque design which allows the body to be a single unit that also ‘increases durability without weighing it down’, according to Nikon.

Indeed, the camera is very light and compact – even more than the D The grip is also much deeper than on the D, making it a whole lot easier to hold onto. Nikon has also added touch functionality to the already-nice 3. Something has disappeared though, and that’s the built-in GPS that was featured on the D It’s probably a safe bet that Nikon is assuming that people will use their smartphone app to handle geotagging on the D As you can see, the D is an upgrade in every respect, save for the lack of a GPS, though we wonder how often that feature is used in general.

The size of the grip is better than what’s found on Nikon’s more expensive D While the LCD itself hasn’t changed, the addition of touch functionality makes the somewhat frustrating shortcut menu easier to use. One addition that many won’t even notice is an eye sensor, which will turn off the LCD when you put your eye to the optical viewfinder.

The D is available in three kits in most regions. Adding the collapsible mm F3. Everyone advises to buy the best camera you can afford, but I need an honest objective opinion on the D for my goals. Is it not enough for the long term? Is it user friendly for beginners?

Also, heard great things about Canon SL3 but its been impossible to find one. I check only refurbished cameras from reputable stores. Is there a camera I might be missing? Id love some input! Point of clarification: With the D did Nikon finally address the infamous “must exit and reenter LiveView to change aperture”? The wording of the review implies you can now change aperture while in LiveView though still not while a video is being recorded.

Count how many times the author says “while He sure does like using the word “while” a lot. I wonder why this shutter shock thing does not seem to withhold people from buying this camera. For me it certainly is a dealbreaker. The expectation that the best of sharpness in my foto’s will be ruined, takes away my buying fun. But maybe I’m taking the review too seriously Please help with a sincere opinion.

My right eye is suffering of cataracts, an I am using now all the time glasses correcting a They also react to the light becoming darker outside. Without glasses I will see badly through the optical viewfinder. With glasses I may have difficulties because the eye is not close enough to the rubber, not to mention that the autofocus points may not be “focused” by my glasses, being so close to the lens.

Shortly, how do you use it? Assuming that at least a fourth of the world’s population has more or less, the same problem Would a viewfinder of a competitor in the same class, Rebel, G85, act much-much better then Nikon’s? The viewfinder on DSLRs can generally be corrected for glasses..

The bigger difference in viewfinder is if the camera uses a Pentamirror or a Pentaprism. You want the Pentaprism as it is brighter. Many of the cheaper, low end crop bodies use a Pentamirror such as this D Pentax cameras adopt a Pentaprism in even the lower end bodies though produced today.

I’m not sure about Canon. Two weeks ago I sold my Samsung NX30, because I coundn’t find an external flahs for it and because Samsung has abandoned this line production. For replacing it, I got the Nikon D I really expected more for such branded camera. I really hope the images are better than NX30 although the chart where we can compare various models in this review shows a significant worse image quality compared to NX I’m very concerning about my decision Let’s see in more details: – the butons and controls: NX30 has a higher and to me, rotating control on top, also, has one key for the modes of braket, timer and single shot; – the mode selector has some shortcuts to WiFi real wi-fi, not the Nikon’s joke , scene modes with the great Portrait retouch mode ; – the pop-up flash has radio control by wirelless – unfortunately, it works very well on Samsung proprietaru flash ; – the EVF is almost perfect for ultra light situations and you see what the camera is capturing.

All – ALL – informations on display are on EVF; Nikon has a mirror and this makes all difference, cutting any image or info when shooting; the only poblem with NX30 evf is the frame rate when making movies For killing the Nikon ovf, nx30 is protuding, which is the most for pictures or movies!

Continuing: The controls on backs in Nikon are just keys. NX30 has also a rotating control; The display on Nikon is bigger, but Samsung is Super Amoled, very visible; The lenses: although in less number of options, they are the most one can need for simple occasions.

I had the mm – motorized in focus and zoom does Nikon has any affordable priced lens with motorized zoom? D has better low light performance according to DxOMark.

After about 5 months i don’t feel good with this camera. I can say everything is good except AF accuracy. Anyone know the model number of the Sony IMX sensor in the d?

It is very impressive and has caused me to retire my d except as a backup camera. I bought one too. I had the opportunity to try the D against the D, and D Canon Competition, and came away with this camera the D as my choice.

Mostly for the video. Not in a super hurry for 4K quite yet since most of my friends have p tech, as do I. The thing that so impressed me was the balance, low weight, excellent touch screen interface, and solid image quality. I want the flat profile to take advantage of the D’s wide dynamic range.

I may get the D some day, or the D, but so far, I am not really in a hurry to do so. I bought it today from internet. At ISO grains or noise are not noticeable. I like it because i usually shoot at a small room lit by 1 small white bulb. I tested with a mm NVR plus as small amount of built in flash. It is much lighter compared to my D, grip is very good and viewfinder is OK to me.

Sorry i can’t compare to high end which i have not used. I have been using Nikon D for past 7 months. Viewfinder gets completely washed out if sun is too bright. Anyone else having this problem? I can’t see a way to adjust brightest of readings in viewfinder. Local camera shop had no clue. Nikon hasn’t answered my question about it either. Is this unique to me? They’re all too close and too varying conditions Really.

I am not much into video , So does the price difference between D and D is really worth it. Also what do you think of buying D over D as I dont think touch screen is useful for me. It’s not much different, but enough for me to chose the d over the d A far superior option would be the d refurb.

It has many more features to grow into for just a little more size and weight. They do Not have the flip out screen! I have a flip screen on my d, but rarely use it, and need it even less. The bodies that offer motor drive af and metering for non af lenses open up a ton of options for you in the used lens market. Lots of great glass available for cheap.

Lots of luck ever getting a built-in motor drive on a D class body. I wouldn’t hold my breath. I guess I used the wrong word, not so much a motor drive as in shutter releases.

But a built in focus motor I guess is what I mean. I was refering to the I would like a Nikon with built in focus motor and a articulated screen, thats a dx camera. I can’t afford an FX model.

Sorry for the confusion. Yes me too! I have a three AF screw lenses they were a gift. Still a newb though. WE ARE waiting for it!!!!! One good viewfinder away from being a really good deal for its class.

Pentax historically have pwned in this category- much larger viewfinders in their class. Sorry with EVFs being so good, a lack of a really good optical finder like this is a big issue with me. These small viewfinders rebel cameras too are so half a decade ago old. Does anyone have any insights on the lack of a front control dial?

Surely it can’t cost a great deal? I imagine there are many photographers who would be absolutely fine with the AF, FPS etc of the D, and may not even care about a second LCD, but would have to really consider going up to the D7xxx just for that extra manual control. I’d like to think it’s not an entirely cynical move, maybe some people are afraid of the extra controls? But honestly can’t those people just keep using auto and ignore an extra dial anyway The reason is they want you to go to the more expensive model for that extra dial.

They try hard to make a distinctive difference between their models. It’s just a software feature. What I ended up doing with the D is dropping the exposure compensation by that amount and then bracketing, which worked fine in most situations. I too Encounter with my D the overexposure problem by the way, it was a Problem, that i did not Encounter with my beloved but old D Can I please ask you a question: When bracketing with the D Around one 10th of the times?

Or less? Does the D have a way to bias the meter, like you can with the D, D, etc. Momentarily forgetting. Can check tomorrow It’d be in the metering menu, btw. Rishi: my sincere apologies.

It is only now, that I realized that you were answering my question to another team-member of the excellent dpreview team. Yes, with the D too I can bias the meter; either through the “exposure compensation” button as Jeff described in his review; or through the “Brightness” Option of “Picture Control Settings”.

The Problem however, is that such biasing will also affect those many fotos that would otherwise be correctly metered. This is just shifting the problem from one subset of photos that would be otherwise overexposed to another subset of photos that would otherwise be correctly metered.

In his review, Jeff therefore suggested use of Exposure bracketing. Hoping Nikon will address the problem. Pretty sure Jeff was commenting that the camera in general overexposes by a bit. You should be able to fix this by biasing the meter, but honestly I can’t remember if the D has this option.

The higher end cameras do. Just kidding, of course :. I was considering the D and even the D’s still lying around just to save a little coin. But no, once I held the D in my hand, the decision was made instantly. Please stop speaking about a product you didn’t even handle.

I bought D though I was reluctant in the beginning. The articulating screen is another boon I’m not going to pass, this is why I discarded D Actually, D competes with my Sony RX10 for street photography and events. I took the kit, and I’m satisfied with the new kit lens that is way better than the I had with my D Read more. Nikon has released firmware version 1.

Axial chromatic aberration is a variation in focal length; lateral chromatic aberration, a variation in magnification. Lateral chromatic aberration: Light wavelengths differ depending upon color. Differences in the length of the wavelengths result in changes in image magnification and become visible at image peripheries.

Lateral Chromatic Aberration is the cause of color fringing. Lateral chromatic aberration is reduced to some degree by combining different lens elements with different refractive indexes, but optically speaking, it cannot be completely eliminated.

In addition to red and its complimentary color, cyan, and blue and its complimentary color, yellow, some lenses may exhibit complex color fringing that combines these two primary types. It is greatly reduced by low-dispersion ED glass. A person who uses a motion picture camera to record the actual film footage shot during the making of a motion picture. Nikon Inc. Live view not used. Real life results will vary depending on factors such as temperature, use conditions and the number of times the battery is recharged. In photography, the circle of confusion CoC is used to determine the depth of field, the part of an image that is acceptably sharp.

A standard value of CoC is often associated with each image format, but the most apprpriate value depends on visual acuity, viewing conditions and the amount of enlargement. Properly, this is the maximum permissible circle of confusion diameter limit, or the circle of confusion criterion, but is simply called circle of confusion.

Real lenses do not focus all rays perfectly, and so, even at best focus, a point is imaged as a spot rather than a point. The smallest such spot that a lens can produce is often referred to as the circle of least confusion. Converts linear polarized light waves to circular polarized light waves. Required whenever polarizing is desired using autofocus cameras and cameras that have semi-silvered reflex mirrors.

When shooting a Cityscape Time-lapse movie, an option available in select Nikon cameras, the camera shoots at a pre-defined interval for 10 minutes, creating a final 10 second time-lapse movie in the camera.

This innovative technology improves screen visibility for a more vivid, clear image when taking and sharing pictures. Reflections are minimized while contrast and power savings are improved. These lenses provide an easy way to increase magnification. Even when attached, you can use automatic exposure control and TTL metering.

All lenses are treated with Nikon Integrated Coating to improve contrast and reduce flare. The higher the close-up lens number, the closer you can focus. Close up is a scene mode available on select Nikon digital cameras used to photograph small objects and subjects at close range.

Cloudy is a white balance setting. When manually setting the white balance on your digital camera, and shooting under cloudy lighting conditions you use the cloudy setting to balance the available light so it is captured correctly by the camera. Complementary metal-oxide semiconductor, one of the two main types of image sensors used in digital cameras.

The resulting improvement in noise and sensitivity reduction makes the select COOLPIX cameras more capable when shooting night scenes or in dark indoor situations. Cyan, magenta, yellow and black, the primary colors used in commercial color printing from which all other printing colors are derived. If the white balance of a scene does not match the lighting under which the scene is being photographed, a color cast can occur.

For example, daylight is normally cooler than incandescent lighting, so if you photograph a subject lit by an incandescent light and the white balance of the camera is set for daylight, the image will look warmer because that type of lighting is warmer orangeish in color than daylight.

If the camera was set for incandescent and you photograph a subject in daylight, the image would look cooler blueish. A filter that alters the color temperature of light to make it suitable for the film in use. It enables you to use daylight-type film indoors or tungsten-type film outdoors. The camera detects and colors the outlines of subjects in the scene for a color sketch effect.

When shooting D-movies in this mode, the video playback looks like a slide show made up of a series of still photos. A scale used for rating the color quality of light. Measured in degrees Kelvin K. The temperature of daylight on a sunny day is expressed as K; light from a tungsten lamp, K to K. The image of a point source of light is prevented from being brought into focus, but instead appears shaped as a comet or teardrop. Coma can be reduced by stopping down the lens. For cameras that offer this feature check your manual to see if yours offers this feature the D-SLR’s built-in flash or external accessory Speedlight can be set to Commander mode, which makes that flash the master flash, controlling remote optional flash units in one or more groups.

Compact binoculars are small, lightweight and convenient, and they can be taken anywhere binoculars are needed. A type of storage card, available in a range of capacities, that’s used in digital cameras to store images captured by the camera. The card can be erased when the images have been transferred or are no longer needed.

Special care should be taken when changing lenses in order to avoid the possibility of dirt or dust entering the camera. Once inside the camera, foreign matter may adhere to the low-pass filter and show up in photographs. To help prevent the appearance of these artifacts in photographs Nikon has created the Comprehensive Dust Reduction System. This system uses a series of high resonance frequencies to vibrate the optical low-pass filter. This dislodges dust on the front of the sensor and reduces dust spots appearing on images.

This system combined with the existing Image Dust Off system in Capture NX 2 provides a full dust prevention system for photographers. Sensor cleaning takes approximately three seconds to complete. If the shutter release is depressed during a sensor clean, cleaning will be cancelled. This enables images to be taken even if a sensor clean has started. Refers to reducing the quality of digital data in an effort to conserve storage space.

For example, the JPEG file format is a compressed format. Continuous is one of the shooting options found in the Auto Mode of select Nikon digital cameras. Continuous allows you to take a series of pictures. Depending upon your camera model, the battery life and remaining memory in the buffer Continuous High lets you take more frames per second than Continuous Low; however if the flash is fired, only one picture will be taken.

Depending upon your camera model, the battery life and remaining memory in the buffer Continuous Low lets you take fewer frames per second than Continuous High; however if the flash is fired, only one picture will be taken.

A mode of autofocus in which focus detection continues as long as the shutter release button is lightly pressed. Continuous is one of the shooting options found in the Auto Mode of Nikon digital cameras.

The camera will take one photograph each time the shutter button is released. Continuous Single is often the default setting.

A measure of the rate of an image’s change of brightness. High contrast implies dark black and bright white content; medium contrast, a good spread from black to white; low contrast, a small spread of values from black to white.

Used with black-and-white film to emphasize contrast in a picture. Yellow Y , orange O , and red R filters are available with contrast increasing in this order. Used to describe changes in apparent magnification when a 35mm lens is used on a D-SLR with a sensor smaller than 24mm x 36mm. The trade name for film scanners manufactured by Nikon. The Close-Range Correction CRC system is one of Nikon’s most important focusing innovations, for it provides superior picture quality at close focusing distances and increases the focusing range.

With CRC, the lens elements are configured in a “floating element” design wherein each lens group moves independently to achieve focusing. This ensures superior lens performance even when shooting at close distances.

The Creative Mode is a shooting mode found on the mode dial of the Nikon 1 J2 camera. The Creative Mode is only for shooting still images, and will not work in movies mode. This is a new feature in the Nikon 1 V3. The camera will automatically detect one of four scenes: portrait, close-up, landscape or other and will then display a ring showing four effects that can be applied to the scene. Brightness, saturation and white balance will change between the different effects as a finger is rotated around the ring or the multi-selector is rotated, so what you see is what you get.

Curvature of Field is a phenomenon in which straight lines are not rendered perfectly straight in the picture. Curvature of field can be improved but not eliminated by stopping down the lens. The Nikon 1 digital cameras utilize the CX format imaging sensor. The optical path at the objective side and eyepiece side is virtually straight, making it possible for the binoculars to be compact and slim. They are more costly to produce because their very small prisms require special grinding and polishing to maintain image integrity.

A film balanced for proper color rendition when exposed in daylight. A lens which allows the photographer to control the degree of spherical aberration in the foreground or background by rotating the lens’ DC ring. This will create a rounded out-of-focus blur that is ideal for portrait photography.

With the DC control set at zero, a DC-Nikkor lens operates in the same way as a non-DC lens with the same focal length and maximum aperture.

The Delayed Remote mode is used when shooting with select Nikon cameras and the ML-L3 remote control, to ensure no camera shake will occur. The Delayed Remote sets the camera’s shutter to release between 2 – 10 seconds after the shutter button on the ML-L3 remote control is pressed.

Available in select cameras such as the Nikon 1 AW1. Calibrate the Depth Gauge on the surface before you enter the water, setting it to zero.

The zone of acceptable sharpness in front of and behind the subject on which the lens is focused. Depth of field varies according to focal length of the lens, chosen aperture and shooting distance. A feature on advanced SLRs that closes the lens down to the actual taking aperture to enable you to see the picture’s depth-of-field.

A measurement of the distance behind the lens wherein the film plane will remain sharply in focus. Depth of focus is sometimes referred to as lens-to-film tolerance. The mechanical device inside a lens that controls the aperture. Any device or substance placed between the central light source and the subject that softens or spreads the light.

Technique of taking film or digital still images or video by attaching a camera to a Fieldscope or Spotting Scope. Digiscoping lets you capture photographs without the use of traditional photographic lenses. Bird watchers and naturalists are some of the people who capture close-up images of wildlife by digiscoping. An image that is represented by discrete numerical values organized in a two-dimensional array.

The conversion of images into a digital form is known as digital imaging. Photography that utilizes a digital camera to produce the image. The digital zoom uses software interpolation to “zoom” into the image further than the actual optical zoom lens in the camera allows.

Because digital zooms use interpolation instead of an actual zoom lens, the resulting image will be of lower quality. Conversion of analog information into digital format so that it can be used by a computer. A measure of lens power equal to the reciprocal of the focal length. Eyeglass prescriptions are generally indicated in diopters. For cameras, the diopter is used as the measure of the dioptric power for the image in the viewfinder.

A separate diopter control allows you to compensate for the difference in eyesight between your right eye and left eye by offsetting the lenses in the two barrels so the image is sharp for each eye. Apparent image distance through optics such as viewfinders. Rated in diopters.

A plus sign is used for positive lenses, a minus sign for negative lenses. The term used to describe optical storage media compact disc. The term used to describe magnetic storage media floppy disk. A phenomenon in which white light rays deviate by different wavelength amounts resulting in a spectrum.

The rainbow created by a prism is the result of dispersion. There are three types of distortion that could affect the shape of the image: Barrel : image deformation causes a rectangle to swell in the center, looking like a barrel the corners of the rectangle are greater than 90 degrees ; Pincushion : image deformation causes the sides of a rectangle to move inward, forming a pincushion or star shape the corners of the rectangle are less than 90 degrees ; or Combinations : the two types can also be combined.

Distortion cannot be corrected by stopping down the lens. It can be improved by the optical combination of positive and negative lens elements. The feature ensures precise subject reproduction and avoids the image distortion that occurs at wide-angle zoom settings or at the peripheries of an image.

Moving computer data from one location to another. Though the term is normally used to describe the transfer of data from the Internet, it is also used to describe the transfer of photos from a camera’s memory card to a computer.

Dots per inch. A measurement of the resolution of a digital photo or digital device, including digital cameras and printers. The higher the number, the greater the resolution.

It allows users to choose which images they wish to print, from the camera. The camera saves this information in special files on the media card for use at a later time when the images are downloaded to a computer, printer or photo kiosk. When using a COOLPIX digital camera with a touchscreen display, you can draw pictures or write memos on the display and save them as photos using the Draw scene mode.

After the DSCN, a file number will be automatically assigned in ascending order. The camera measures the amount of light reflected from the subject through the lens to automatically control flash output level and give correct exposure. Certain Nikon digital cameras such as the Nikon 1 V1 digital camera utilize a dual shutter system, allowing you to choose from Mechanic, Electronic or Electronic HI shutters depending upon your shooting situation.

The Electronic Shutter is silent and is ideal for use where camera sounds are undesirable. The Electronic HI Shutter’s default setting captures images at a rate of 10 fps. It does support 30 and 60 fps frame rates. Face detection is disabled when using the Electronic HI Shutter. Nikon capture nx2 cannot open nef free.Nikon D5500 Review

An affordable memory card, like SD cards and storage, was never a problem for a professional or amateur photographer. However, it is not just about the high-quality images, either. It is exclusive to Nikon cameras and is written to the memory card in an uncompressed form. NEF files protect much of the information about the captured scene, and they allow more refined control and non-destructive editing.

You can adjust and look with different filters and effects and never compromise the original image. Furthermore, nikon capture nx2 cannot open nef free long as the digital negative DNG is safe somewhere in the disk or memory card, it can continually return to its original state.

However, if you use excellent data recovery software, like Disk Drill, you should be able to recover those files. Disk Drill is one of the most consistent data recovery programs on the market, and can effortlessly recover lost NEF data from any storage medium, including SD cards, flash drives, external hard drives, or other media storage.

It also includes a trial version for Windows version that lets you recover up to MB of data and comes with all the features of nikon capture nx2 cannot open nef free paid edition.

This usually renders your files inaccessible and may even cause your photos to appear distorted. One of the more common reasons for NEF file corruption is the bad sectors found in an SD card or other storage medium.

To fix this, you can leverage the built-in Windows CHKDSK tool which is capable of uncovering the bad sectors and potentially fixing issues related to them. Corrupted NEF files have a tendency to become inaccessible to the nikon capture nx2 cannot open nef free image viewer that comes with Windows operating systems and sometimes even refuses to open with third-party programs as well.

To retrieve data directly from the Recycle Bin, follow these steps below:. Acquiring documents back from the Mac Trash is as simple as getting them back from the Recycle Bin.

Fortunately, many iterations of Windows and Mac operating systems are fully capable of opening NEF files through their built-in image viewers. If for whatever reason, your Windows machine is having trouble accessing these images, you can download and install the official NEF Codec and it should allow you to open them like any other photo. Many other NEF file openers and viewers are available that can open this kind of extension.

These are different tools NEF files can open:. Updated on July 1, Emma Продолжение здесь. Brett Johnson. Launch it and follow the installation instructions until the software is successfully nikon capture nx2 cannot open nef free. Free Download. Note: You can right-click any of the images and select Preview to bring up a panel on the right side of the window.
